With this second cd, the Oliver River Gess Band continues on its journey set out 12 years ago with its usual philologycal care, save for two deliberate exceptions: in the opening track (a very famous and poorly recorded meeting of two giants, King Oliver and Jelly Roll Morton) we have enjoyed to imagine what could have happened if the entire Dixie Syncopators had joined to the duet, while in "Livery stable blues" (now with a new animal added to its original collection!) you can hear a very Oliver-like cornet added near the end, as if the great King Joe could have partecipated to the "very first" record in the history of jazz.

The first CD of the band, recorded live, reveals the genuine freshness and fun of a bunch of friends that really enjoy getting together after their day-time work, trying to communicate to the listener the feeling of a solid musical unit rather than a parade of rivalling soloists – in the true spirit of early New Orleans jazz.
